This two-day course provides the skills and background knowledge needed to drive a powerboat and is the basis of the International Certificate of Competence. It includes close quarters handling, high speed maneuvers, man overboard recovery and collision regulations. Training is a combination of practical and theoretical exercises. Other subjects include launching, mooring, anchoring and recovery. Our training vessels are 2 x 7.85m Ballistic RIB’s (Rigid Inflatable Boats) with twin 200hp Yamaha 2-Stroke engines.
We are based in Cape Town at the V & A Waterfront. Our training takes place in our classrooms at the V & A Waterfront and also in the waters of Table Bay. There is a small kitchen where students can make tea and coffee. We begin promptly at 0900 hrs each morning and typically finish at 1700 hrs. We do not provide accommodation but we can recommend local hostels for those that are arriving from out of town.
We ask that students bring a blank notebook and pen/pencil. We provide a training manual from the RYA and RYA certification. Students should also bring non-marking deck shoes, suitable foul-weather gear, sunglasses and sunscreen.
