The STCW 95 Course

STCW: Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping.
What is a STCW 95?: It is a license which allows you to work on any vessel at sea, and is compulsory to get before stepping foot on any vessel. Companies will generally not consider you for a job unless you have done the course. The STCW 95 code is similar to that of the US Coast Guard licensing regulations.

You need the STCW 95 courses to obtain your Commercial Endorsement which is needed on your RYA/ MCA Certificate of Competence (RYA/ MCA Coastal Skipper; RYA/ MCA Yachtmaster Offshore and RYA/ MCA Yachtmaster Ocean) to work on commercial yachts.

These courses are:

STCW Personal Survival Techniques (PST)
STCW Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities (PSSR)
STCW Elementary First Aid (FA)
STCW Fire Fighting and Fire Prevention (FF)

The First Aid Certificate is a Pre-Examination Requirement for the RYA/MCA Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster Offshore Exam. The certificate needs to be presented to the external RYA Examiner.

THE STCW 95 COURSES NEED TO BE COMPLETED PRIOR TO COMMENCING ANY JOBS AT SEA (Super yachts, most cruise ships, oil rigs, etc) AND/ OR YOUR RYA CAREER COURSES (Yachting, Super yachts, sailing, etc).
