Yacht Chef Training Course

It has never been a better time to be a qualified chef. With the expansion of the Superyacht Industry, qualified Yacht Chefs are in demand. This Yacht Chef programme builds on existing chef qualifications and provides you with the necessary and mandatory certifications required to work on a luxury yacht and includes RYA training provided by Superyachting South Africa. You are required to be in possession of a valid Food Health & Safety Level 2 certificate, if you do not have one or need re-validation, we offer an MCA recognized Level 2 Course in Food Safety.

This 2 week course takes place in Cape Town and is taught by highly experienced Superyacht professionals. In addition to learning and understanding powerboat & yacht operations,  yacht safety and menu planning, you will gain valuable insight into the different roles and demands of the industry. This yacht chef course aims to provide you with all the tools and knowledge in order to gain a competitive edge and find work as a professional Yacht Chef in the Superyacht Industry.

The following topics are covered in the Yacht Chef Course:

• STCW 2010
• Proficiency in Designated Security Duties (PDSD)
• Driving a Superyacht tender (Powerboat)
• Line handling & ropework

The new cooking guidelines from the MCA (Maritime and Coastguard Agency) have formalised the Superyacht Chef role and as of 15th February 2015, all current and new Chef entrants will be required to complete the MCA Ships Cook Assessment in order to be eligible for employment. This assessment cannot be done in South Africa and must be taken overseas.
