RYA Yachtmaster Coastal Package

The RYA Yachtmaster Coastal Deckhand program is run over +/- 9 weeks in Cape Town and Langebaan. This is where you will test your skills in the South Atlantic Ocean, one of the most exciting and challenging training grounds in the world, It is also home to the official RYA practical examination area which is used by our RYA training partners, Yachtmaster Ocean Sailing School, in order to fully prepare our students for the final exam. On successful completion, Yacht Deckhand students will gain a qualification to skipper yachts of up to 24 metres & 200 gross tons in waters up to 20 miles from a safe haven.

Second only to the RYA Yachtmaster Offshore license, your commercially endorsed RYA Yachtmaster Coastal certificate will ensure you are taken seriously at every professional level. Yacht Deckhands holding this qualification are considered exceptionally strong candidates and valued assets on any sailing yacht or superyacht up to MCA Chief Mate (yachts less than 3000gt).

The advanced RYA Yachtmaster Coastal Deckhand course includes all elements from the Intermediate Yacht Deckhand course PLUS RYA Diesel Engine, RYA Yachtmaster Coastal/Offshore theory, RYA Coastal practical, 1-week open ocean mileage trip, RYA Yachtmaster Coastal exam prep and exam and online PPR exam for commercial endorsement. RYA sail training provided by our partners at Sail Due South.

On successful completion, *top performing yacht deckhand students have an opportunity (space dependent), to gain real-life experience and their first “Superyacht” reference via an unpaid day work program. *T&C’s apply.
