The below is explained explicitly during our FREE consultations and as part of our recognized support structure. To assist each and every Superyacht candidate and to bridge the knowledge gap, we have finally decided to unleash this info to the Superyacht World, in an easy to follow, step-by-step guide of how to gain employment onboard a Superyacht in today’s modern and competitive market place.

  • Research the role you intend to do

–          Deckhand
–          Steward/ess
–          Engineer
–          Chef

  • Decide which Season you would like to start in

–          Mediterranean  (April – Oct)
–          Caribbean  (Oct – April)

  • Complete your ENG 1 seafarers medical

  • Research and Contact a reputable Superyacht Training school / academy. If possible, schedule a FREE face to face consultation and ask the right questions to make sure this Industry is for you:

–          Have the staff you dealing with ACTUALLY worked on the Superyachts?
–          If they did, how long ago was it?
–          Does the company have testimonials as proof of their service?
–          Do they offer a support service, as opposed to just the course?
–          First-hand experience is key in understanding the requirements of the industry and so the individual you are                 chatting with MUST have worked on Superyachts and not 20 years ago….the Industry has changed                                 tremendously
–          Once you have carefully chosen your Training School/ Academy, make sure you complete courses which allow             you to meet minimum requirements & gain a competitive edge in order to be eligible for employment:

  • DECKHAND Role

–         STCW95 (minimum legal requirement)
–         Proficiency in Designated Security Duties (PDSD)  (minimum legal requirement)

However, the above is not enough to secure a job these days, due to increased competition and high industry benchmarks. It is highly suggested that Deckhands also complete the additional minimum requirements set out below in order to gain a competitive advantage:

–          RYA Powerboat Level 2
–          RYA VHF Radio
–          RYA Radar
–          Deckhand course
–          RYA Diesel Engine
–          RYA Personal Watercraft Course (PWC)
–          MCA Approved Engine Course (AEC) – As an alternative to RYA Diesel Engine

  • STEWARD/ESS Role

–          STCW95 (minimum legal requirement)
–          Proficiency in Designated Security Duties (PDSD)  (minimum legal requirement)
–          MCA Food Hygiene Course (minimum legal requirement)

However, the above is not enough to secure a job these days, due to increased competition and high industry benchmarks. It is highly suggested that a Steward/ess also complete the additional minimum requirements set out below in order to gain a competitive advantage:

–          RYA Powerboat Level 2
–          Stewardess Course

  • ENGINEER Role

–          STCW95 (minimum legal requirement)
–          Proficiency in Designated Security Duties (PDSD) (minimum legal requirement)
–          MCA Approved Engine Course (AEC) (minimum requirement for junior Engineers)

However, the above is not enough to secure a job these days, due to increased competition and high industry benchmarks. It is highly suggested that Engineers also complete the additional minimum requirements set out below in order to gain a competitive advantage:

–          RYA Powerboat Level 2

  • CHEF Role

–          STCW95 (minimum legal requirement)
–          Proficiency in Designated Security Duties (PDSD)  (minimum legal requirement)
–          MCA Food Hygiene Course (minimum legal requirement)

However, the above is not enough to secure a job these days, due to increased competition and high industry benchmarks. It is highly suggested that Chefs also complete the additional minimum requirements set out below in order to gain a competitive advantage:

–          RYA Powerboat Level 2

–          List of Crew Agencies (Sign up with selected agencies online)
–          List of Crew Accommodation (Make a Crew Accommodation Booking in advance)
–          Interview Techniques
–          Offshore Bank Account
–          Personal budget / Profit calculation

  • Network prior to leaving

–          On training course
–          Friends
–          Social media (Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin etc)

  • Pack light and efficiently

–          Soft duffel bag with wheels
–          Only necessary clothes
–          Laptop
–          Smartphone (Dual-band or Tri-band)

  •  On arrival at your destination

–          Orientate yourself and learn about popular bus/train/tram routes + Local supermarkets & bars/pubs
–          Budget right from the start
–          Network in Crew House
–          Arrange face to face interviews at selected Crew Agencies
